Blow 'Em Out! | Blow-drying Tutorial

Updated: Jul 22

It's FRO day! So, I decided to let the mane loose and do a blow out. Heat has not touched my hair in 1.5 years and I was a bit nervous about breaking my streak. However, I took the necessary precautions and took my time, which resulted in a beautiful blown out afro!

To prep my hair for heat, I used the House of Isis Shea Conditioner. It is a whipped shea butter that can be used as a heat protectant! I love myself a dual product!

Continue reading for my step by step tips!

Blow Drying Tips

Work In Sections. Blow dry your hair with intent! Unless you are a professional, it can be quite difficult to get every strand.

Moisturize your curls! Do you remember that dry crunchy feeling after your blow out session? I definitely do! Don't scale back on your moisture routine! Apply your leave-in of choice and seal with a light oil to keep your hair softened and moisturized. I applied my products before filming.

Apply Heat Protectant. We don't want any heat damage over here! Be sure to thoroughly apply your heat protectant and distribute with a comb or detangling brush before you begin to blow out your hair. I used the House of Isis Shea Conditioner, I really liked how stretched my curls looked.

Tension Method. The tension method is when you stretch your section of hair while scanning heated air up and down your strands. Your hair will be in a more elongated state, making the rest of the process so much easier! You'll notice that I had a harder time blowing out my first section due to skipping the tension method.

Finish off each section with cool air. Once your hair is stretched to your liking, switch to cool air! This means less heat applied to your hair, sealed hair cuticles to lock in moisture and a softer, shinier mane! This step also helps prevent that dry, crunching feeling.

Do you blow dry on cool or hot air? Let me know in the comments!
